Website: Bebopified

Author Pamela Espeland chronicles the local jazz scene and beyond over on her website bebopified. Of particular interest is her 2014 "state of the scene" article on how the local jazz scene has changed and how local musicians are now taking control of their own destiny more directly. (Steve Kenny being a prime example.)

Monthly Series: Jazz at Studio Z

Studio Z describes itself as "a vibrant performance space in St. Paul's Lowertown Arts District." Their monthly "Jazz at Studio Z" concert series (occasionally more than just monthly) is curated by guitarist Zacc Harris and showcases great local jazz artists and musicianship. For more information, visit the Jazz at Studio Z website or Facebook page.

Monday Nights: JT's Jazz Implosion @ Icehouse

Icehouse, located at 2521 Nicollet Avenue South in South Minneapolis, hosts live jazz every Monday night. Excellent local groups for "JT's Jazz Implosion" are booked by drummer JT Bates.

Secrets of the City calls it "one of the hottest jazz scenes in the cities."

Icehouse has great food and drinks, too.

Vieux Carré

Vieux Carré, located in downtown St. Paul, is the smaller sibling to the the Minneapolis mainstay Dakota Jazz Club. It is located in the space that used to house the Artists' Quarter. Those guys at the AQ designed a pretty good music room, if I do say so myself. View Carré is a different club, not an extension or re-opening of the AQ. VC has a "varied schedule highlighting local talents in many different genres with a focus on jazz, soul, [and] blues." Website.
